Woodworking Bench Paul Sellers
Eric king- my bench was built with pine lumber. the top is laminated 1x4's, the trestles are 2x4's, and the sides are 2x12's. i built this bench 2 1/2 years ago after watching paul's first workbench series. note the lack of a vise. i have gotten very good at using holdfasts on the top and apron for holding and securing my work.. I simply built the bench paul sellers showed in the videos. for the tabletop i used spruce/fir 8cm by 8cm. the aprons and wellboard are same wood but 4cm by 8cm. the bench is 220cm long. for the legs i used 10cm by 10cm spruce/fir. the bench is also mobile as paul’s is, just 12 screws hold it together. my working height is 103 cm as i am. How do you build a workbench without a workbench? this is a somewhat difficult part of getting into woodworking that paul sellers addresses in this video. in this, part 1, paul sellers shows how.
I like the workbench in paul sellers' book and dvd series working wood, so when i started the school, that was the design i chose. the combination of book and dvd provide an excellent guide to building it. he also addresses the issue of how to build a bench when you don't have a bench to work on. you can read my review of this series here..
